Pediatric CareDr. Mary has had extensive additional training in the chiropractic care of pregnant and pediatric patients.
Many people dont think that chiropractic is necessary for children. In fact, it is at least as important for children as for adults, and often more so. At birth, the act of being born can be very traumatic for the baby. During birth, the cervical spine (neck) may be stretched more than normal causing subluxations. This interference to a healthy nervous system function should be removed as soon as possible so the baby can function at an optimal level immediately. Periodic check ups and adjustments will allow the child to grow and develop properly. In many cases, postural distortions can be prevented and taken care of if a child receives chiropractic care from birth. An infant or young child does not have all the stress an adult has. Also, the muscles are not fully developed. These factors mean that the adjustment is very light. The pressure used to adjust an infant, for example, is not more than one would apply to the eye. As the child grows and develops, the chiropractor will adapt the pressure so the adjustment is effective. Children are also quicker to respond to chiropractic care and heal at a much faster rate than an adult. Colic, ear infections, scoliosis, ADHD, allergies and asthma are all childhood events for which chiropractic is very successful. Many conventional treatments can be avoided if chiropractic care is sought because it goes right to the source of these conditions- the spine and nervous system. Our practice has a room and table designed especially for children with a small play area. Children can have fun and enjoy visiting Dr. Mary and Dr. John. |
